Traumatic Brain Injury
Traumatic brain injuries are among the most devastating and complex of all injuries.
When the brain is injured neurons and nerve tracts in its various lobes can have difficulty carrying the messages that tell the brain what to do.
A traumatic brain injury can be caused by a blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the function of the brain. The severity of such an injury may range from "mild," (i.e., a brief change in mental status or consciousness) to "severe," (i.e., an extended period of unconsciousness or amnesia after the injury). It can also cause epilepsy and increase the risk for conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and other brain disorders that can develop over time.
People who suffer these injuries frequently have problems with memory and problem solving, managing stress and emotional upsets, controlling their temper, and performing their jobs or completing school work. They can also suffer changes affecting thinking, sensation, language, and emotions.
Persons who have suffered a traumatic brain injury should contact an experienced lawyer to determine if a claim for damages should be made.
